Spiral – Françoise Sullivan

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

La bande à Paul mandated Robocut Studio to reactivate a kinetic sculpture created by the artist Françoise Sullivan, originally conceived in the late 1960s.
The original artwork was exhibited only once in 1969. Then, it was supposed to be presented at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts: during transportation, part of the original sculpture was destroyed, but the centrepiece, the spiral, was preserved. In 2018, Geoffrey Ewen, Françoise Sullivan’s son, proposes to have the work restored under the supervision of the artist and thanks to the ingenuity of La bande à Paul and Robocut Studio. The work was presented in October 2018 at Galerie Simon Blais.
Robocut Studio managed the manufacture of the case, as well as the electronic system which triggers the lights on the spiral passage.
