Planet Ice: Mysteries of the Ice Ages

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Produced by the Canadian Museum of Nature and presented as a world premiere, the Planet ice exhibition brings together more than 120 real specimens, as well as extraordinary models and artefacts. The exhibition aims to highlight the importance of ice in our lives, and educate visitors about the negative effects of climate change, while exhibiting solutions Robocut was commissioned to design and manufacture the following 8 interactive installations:

Underwater city :

Climate change is accelerating the melting of glaciers. The amount of water generated will affect cities that are near water points. 1: 200 scale model, showing a flooded town due to melting glaciers..

Voting station:

A polling station, where at the end of their visit, the visitor can choose 1 or more actions to take to help control and reduce climate change. Addressable RGB LED arrays controlled by our LEDriver and custom selector button controlled by a Teensy module.

Glaciation Island

Model that serves as a projection screen, to demonstrate
the effects that glaciers have on the terrain around them.
(in collaboration with Simbioz)

Burning grass

With global warming, scientists predict a large increase in dry and windy days, favourable to the outbreak and spread of fires.
Robocut had the mandate to manufacture an interactive model on a 1: 1 scale, showing a parcel of land in full fire!

Primary factors:

In collaboration with Simbioz, Robocut manufactured 3 controllers to discover the influence of the sun on climatic conditions.

Liquid and Frozen water:

Model to demonstrate the volume that water takes up when it is frozen

Deep time spiral

Model representing the geological age of the earth
